Stephen’s story

“Thank you to the North West Air Ambulance Charity for saving my life. I was wrote off, but what the crew did and the decisions they made in such a high-pressure situation has given me more time with my family and children.”

In July 2023, 38-year-old Stephen was in a car when it hit and tree, trapping him in his seat.

It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to free Stephen from the car. In this time his condition had deteriorated. To gain control of his breathing, our crew putting him into an induced coma at the roadside.

They also made a small surgical incision into Stephen’s chest wall to allow the release of air build-up in his lungs. He’d lost a lot of blood so the crew gave him a pre-hospital blood transfusion.

Thanks to our raffle players we could bring these time critical interventions to Stephen at the roadside.

“It was a lovely surprise to receive a telephone call telling me that I had won first prize in the summer raffle.”
