Former Hollyoaks actor Robert Beck has begun training for a fundraising expedition to Peru, to raise vital funds for the North West Air Ambulance Charity.
54-year-old Robert Beck, who has starred in a range of TV shows and is married to Coronation Street actor Jane Danson, is taking on the Inca trails of the Peruvian Andes Mountains, alongside his friend Chris.
Rob will walk over 50 kilometres across difficult terrain and high altitudes on a gruelling 10-day trek, with the hope of raising £10,000 for the North West Air Ambulance Charity.
The life-saving charity, which receives no NHS or government funding, provides enhanced pre-hospital care to some of the most critically ill and injured patients across the North West. It relies on the support of the general public to keep flying to save lives.
As part of their training, Rob and Chris are taking on several challenges across the North West in the run-up to their Inca challenge, including Snowdon and Scarfell Pike. To mark the start of their fundraising, the pair visited the base in August to find out more about the life-saving work the charity provides.
Rob said: “I’m so thrilled to be able to help the NWAA in any way I can, the work they do is perhaps often taken for granted, but the service they provide is absolutely incredible.
“I wanted to not only raise money but also awareness, so people know just how indispensable they are.
“We’re already planning some trips to North Wales to kick start training. I have 8 months to get fit enough…. And at my age, I will need every single one of them.”
