Engines Ready: NWAA’s Base to Base Charity Ride Out Returns for 2026

Published: 23rd February 2026

Motorcyclists across the North West are invited to saddle up on Sunday 26th April 2026 as the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) brings back its flagship Base to Base Ride Out.

This year, the Ride Out will be delivered in partnership with North West Blood Bikes, Lancs & Lakes and Greater Manchester Blood Bikes.

The popular charity ride will set off from Blackpool Airport (Hangar 3) before making its way along a scenic, motorway‑free route to Barton Aerodrome in Manchester.

Arrival begins at 9:30am, with the official ride‑out starting at 11am. Tickets are £15 for general admission or £25 VIP. VIP tickets include a goodie bag and priority positioning when setting off.

Open to riders of all abilities, the event promises a memorable day on two wheels while raising vital funds for lifesaving services that receive no government or NHS funding.

Over the past 18 months, the three organisations have strengthened a powerful operational partnership. This collaboration plays a key role in supporting NWAA’s recently expanded blood‑on‑board service, which now enables crews to deliver emergency blood transfusions directly at the scene of incidents, whether arriving by helicopter or critical care vehicle.

A large group of motorcyclists wearing high-visibility vests stand in a line with their bikes on a grassy field under a blue sky, with a North West Air Ambulance helicopter flying in the distance above them. Motorcyclists gather outside the North West Air Ambulance Charity base, with several bikes parked alongside a yellow critical care response vehicle in front of the charity’s building and signage.

Trish Fitzpatrick, North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes, said: “North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes have been working together with Greater Manchester Blood Bikes and North West Air Ambulance Charity over the past 18 months.  Building on this successful partnership, all three organisations are delighted to announce that they will be uniting once again, this time as part of the 2026 Base to Base Ride.

“Together, North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes, Greater Manchester Blood Bikes and the NWAA remain committed to delivering essential lifesaving services to the communities of the North West, and the Base to Base Ride is an opportunity to build up relationships as we FUNdraise together.”

Both Blood Bikes teams help ensure essential blood products reach NWAA’s Blackpool and Barton fleet daily, contributing to faster interventions and improved outcomes for seriously injured patients across the region.

Russ Harrison, Greater Manchester Blood Bikes, added: “Greater Manchester Blood Bikes and NWAA have been strategic partners for four years now, working together to supply blood on board from road to rotor, so we are delighted to further enhance that partnership by fundraising together on the Base to Base Ride in 2026.”

Steph Gibson, Events Coordinator at NWAA, said: “Our Base to Base Ride Out captures the heart of our partnership and the incredible support of the biking community. Every rider who joins helps us continue delivering critical care across the North West.”
