Could you complete the Fred Whitton Challenge?
The Saddleback Fred Whitton Challenge has become one of the UK’s most popular sportives. The charity event was created to honour Fred Whitton, an advocate for cycle sport in Cumbria and North Lancashire. Consisting of 113 miles around the Lake District, this is a difficult route that takes top rides just under six hours to complete, although anything over 11 is not unusual. Starting and finishing in Grasmere, the course covers all of the Lakeland passes, one with a 30% gradient.
